Spend a couple of hours this weekend to stock up on your hurricane supplies, and reap the rewards later in the season when a storm approaches: No battling traffic, no long lines at the stores, fewer tensions, and more peace of mind. And with the National Hurricane Committee and the islands' hardware stores joining hands to promote preparedness over the next two weekends, this is the best time to get what you need. Cox Lumber, AL Thompson, Uncle Bill's and Kirk Home Centre will host demonstrations by Public Works on how to make your own hurricane shutters and how to connect and use your generator safely, while Government Information Services staff will be present to answer any hurricane preparedness questions. The following stores are also offering discounts and specials on a wide range of hurricane supplies: Cox Lumber is offering 15 percent off all hurricane supplies between 7 and 20 June. This includes plywood and boards for your homemade shutters delivered to your home. Kirk Home Centre has specials on several hurricane preparedness supplies such as gas cans, tarps, plywood and window/door protection kits. At Uncle Bill's you can order fabric shield shutters and aluminium accordian shutters. They store stocks hurricane resistant ImpactView windows and doors by Yale Ogron plus the usual supplies: Batteries, flashlights, generators, raincoats, fasteners, storage containers, water boots, chainsaws, lamps, fuel, and camping stoves.
