Due to the potential weather threat from Hurricane Dean, the Port Authority advises members of the public who have cargo and vehicles at the distribution centre, warehouse or at the arriving ships to collect these items immediately. The most important items to collect are chilled and frozen cargo as the port does not have backup power to provide for these containers. The schedule of cargo ship arrivals is as follows:

  • Today (Friday, 17 August) at 1 p.m. Seaboard Venture will dock and begin discharge at 4 p.m. Pre-cleared dedicated cargo can be collected today from 4 p.m. until 6 a.m. Saturday, and again on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Tomorrow evening (Saturday, 18 August) Caribe Legend is scheduled to arrive to begin discharge immediately. Pre-cleared cargo can be collected till Sunday (19 August) at 2 a.m., unless the port closes before.
  • From Sunday, 19 August the port will be closed from 6 a.m. until the hurricane's impact is over.
  • Jan Caribe that normally arrives on Sunday, has opted to delay its arrival until the storm has passed and the port re-opens.
The public is advised that Port Authority regulation 8 states that the Authority is not responsible for: "loss or damage to freight on or in its facilities by reason of fire, leakage, evaporation, natural shrinkage, wastage, decay, animals, rodents, moisture, the elements, discharge of water from sprinkler fire protection systems or from any other causes."
