Published 14th November 2008, 10:35am

From Hazard Management Cayman Islandsí Joint Communications Services Friday, 14 November 2008 The Department of Environmental Health (DEH) is asking residents of Cayman Brac and Little Cayman to separate all debris into the following categories for disposal:

  • Vegetation or yard waste (trees, shrubs and other plant material)
  • Residential or household garbage
  • Construction and demolition debris
  • Metals
Sorting garbage into categories is essential to facilitate proper and efficient waste management. Residential waste will be collected by the DEH at normally scheduled times on both islands. Other waste on Cayman Brac:
  • Vegetative waste should be brought to the open lot opposite Scottís Quarry.
  • All other waste (already separated into categories) should be taken to the current landfill site.
An eight-man crew, using grab trucks, two garbage trucks and a bobcat, has already completed significant collection on the Bracís north coast. Anyone unable to transport bulk waste to the various sites is asked to leave it curbside, in separated piles, for pick up. Other waste on Little Cayman:
  • All items, except for residential garbage, should be sorted into the above-mentioned categories and disposed of at the islandís landfill.
