Four happy winners walked away with disaster preparedness kits, following the National Day of Preparedness celebration on May 16, 2011.

The kits were sponsored by Cox Lumber Company, A.L. Thompsonís, Kirk Home Centre and Progressive Distributors. Most of these stores have partnered Hazard Management Cayman Islands (HMCI) for several years now, and each year they allow HMCI to come to their locations to raise awareness and distribute disaster preparedness information directly to members of the public.

Displays were set up inside the participating stores and residents who approached the HMCI table were then invited to enter a raffle to win the disaster kits. The winning tickets were drawn on live TV, on Daybreak on June 1st; the opening day of the 2011 Hurricane Season.

Some of the items in the kits included supplies of non perishable food, batteries, flashlights, coolers, portable propane stoves. For more information about family disaster plans and what should go into your disaster kit visit www.Caymanprepared.ky;

Progressive Distributors and the hardware stores involved in the National Day of Preparedness campaign have the supplies you need to put together an excellent Disaster Preparedness Kit. The Cayman Islands is vulnerable to a range of threats (including earthquakes) which could happen at any time, so donít wait until a hurricane threatens to get your emergency supplies. Plan ahead.
