Published 18th May 2012, 3:45pm

The North Sound Gardens Citizens' Association (NSGCA) has completed the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training program. The community group met for CERT training every Friday night for two hours.

Training involved a number of components including First Aid / CPR, Fire Safety and Suppression, Disaster Preparedness, Stress Management / Disaster Psychology, Shelter Management, Initial Damage Assessment, Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment etc.

In total, the 14 dedicated members of the North Sound Gardens group attended 20 hours of training over a 9 week period.

The next CERT training is in North Side and commences on May 23rd. Approximately 20 residents have already signed up to be a part of the North Side CERT.

HMCI and the Cayman Islands Red Cross are working in partnership to increase disaster preparedness and resilience at the grass roots level. CERT training is free. Any resident who is interested in getting involved should contact Simon Boxall at 916-3766
