Weather Bulletin No: 2 - Tropical Storm Chantal

AT 4:00 PM LOCAL TIME, THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM CHANTAL WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 15.2 N LONGITUDE 63.7 W OR ABOUT 270 MILES SOUTHEAST OF SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO.

THE STORM IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST TO NORTHWEST NEAR 26 MPH AND THIS GENERAL MOTION IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE FOR THE NEXT 48 HOURS. THIS GENERAL MOTION IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS WITH A GRADUAL DECREASE IN THE FORWARD SPEED. ON THE FORECAST TRACK, THE CENTER OF CHANTAL WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE AWAY FROM THE LESSER ANTILLES TONIGHT, AND IS EXPECTED TO BE NEAR OR OVER THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC BY WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON. CHANTAL IS EXPECTED TO BE OVER THE SOUTHEASTERN AND CENTRAL BAHAMAS ON THURSDAY.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 65 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS. SOME STRENGTHEN IS EXPECTED OVER THE EASTERN CARIBBEAN DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS.

THE CAYMAN ISLANDS NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE WILL CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE SYSTEM.
