5 M Earthquake (Source USGS)

At 1:12 am local time, A Magnitude 5.0 Earthquake occurred 47 miles ESE of East End, Grand Cayman.

A number of residents reported feeling the tremor but there have been no confirmed reports of damage.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 6.2 miles at 19.099N 80.434W.

The Cayman Islands is located close to the boundary line between the North American plate and the Caribbean plate, and earthquakes occur from time to time.

On December 14th, 2004 a 6.8 M earthquake was widely felt by local residents.
