The Cayman Islands National Weather Service is advising that the strong tropical wave moving over the western Caribbean has now become Tropical Depression 14.

The Depression will support an increase in cloudiness, showers and thunder from this afternoon over the Cayman area.

Strengthening is forecast over the next couple of days and the depression is expected to become a tropical storm later today or tonight and could be near or at hurricane strength when it reaches the Yucatan Peninsula late Saturday.

The system is not expected to be a significant threat to the Cayman Islands as it passes south and then west of our area.
