Nearly Stationary

Published 25th October 2020, 3:1am

The National Hurricane Center is reporting that the nearly stationary depression located approximately 115 miles south west of Grand Cayman has strengthened into Tropical Storm Zeta, with sustained winds of 40 mph winds and higher gusts (mainly to the southeast of the centre of the circulation).

The Cayman Islands National Weather Service has issued a flood and small craft warning for the Cayman Islands.

A slow north-northwestward to northwestward motion is expected later today. On the forecast track, the center of Zeta will pass south of western Cuba

and away from the Cayman Islands early Monday.

Additional strengthening is expected during the next 48 to 72 hours, and Zeta is forecast to become a hurricane by early Tuesday.

Residents should continue to monitor Zeta today as it gradually moves away from the Cayman area.
