The global community reaches out in ways both small and large to help those in need. Governments, businesses, churches and other nonprofit organizations and individuals respond.

For example, after Hurricane Ivan, some countries, including Jamaica, Honduras, and Canada, sent jets to evacuate their nationals. Head offices overseas sent their island branches plane loads of food, water, T-shirts and generators. Medical personnel and building inspectors volunteered to help - taking their vacations or leave from their jobs without pay. A hardware store in Tampa, which also has a Grand Cayman store, offered to bare the cost of shipping any relief supplies it received. Food distributors in the USA, having built solid relationships with Island grocery stores, sent food. The Red Cross responded, particularly to those in shelters.
