Current Situation

Following Hurricane Paloma (9 November 2008), the Cayman Islands National Recovery Fund opened bank accounts to receive cash donations to help the residents of Cayman Brac and Little Cayman repair and restore their homes:

  • Butterfield Bank
    • CI$ Account number: 02201/036345/00
    • US$ Account number: 01201/036345/01
  • Cayman National Bank
    • CI$ Account number: 011–11578
    • US$ Account number: 021–06309

The Cayman Islands National Recovery Fund was founded following Hurricane Ivan (September 2004) primarily to assist low-income residents, many of whom were uninsured, in putting roofs back on their homes. The Fund receives donations (money, investments and/or property) from individuals and corporations both locally and overseas to:

  • Provide charitable, humanitarian or other assistance to the people of the Cayman Islands;
  • Promote, assist and implement the speedy recovery of the Cayman Islands;
  • Further the social, cultural, educational, economic, religious, tourism, sporting and environmental recovery of the Cayman Islands;
  • Assist communities in their recovery and redevelopment; and
  • Benefit charities with related purposes.

The Fund has received many cash donations from Cayman's businesses; employees have contributed in various ways and other persons have taken the initiative to raise funds in novel ways. Donations are tax deductible for U.S. citizens and corporations.
