Site audience and purpose
This site has two primary audiences. Firstly, it is intended to cover the information needs of the Civil Service in relation to the National Hurricane Plan for the Cayman Islands. More specifically it is aimed towards members of the National Hurricane Committee (NHC), its Sister Islands counterpart, and the various sub-committees. Secondly, it is intended to act as an educational tool to inform the public and help them with their hurricane preparedness planning.
Site navigation
The site is divided into four main topics; namely:
- Preparedness provides information to help people develop a personal hurricane plan.
- Main Plan provides the general framework for the National Hurricane Plan.
- Grand Cayman Subplan lists actions to be taken by response agencies on Grand Cayman.
- Sister Islands Subplan specifies actions to be taken by response agencies on the Sister Islands.
Additionally, there are six reference topics - About Us, News, Publications, Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), Contact Us, and Forms.
The Site A-Z index and the Site Map are recommended as alternative aids to navigating the site.

Pages on the site conform to a standard format. Pages are designed to best display with a monitor set at a screen resolution of 800 x 600 pixels (or higher). The banner menu provides links to the main topics and the reference topics from each page of the site. Below the banner, except on the home page, is a navigation section, called breadcrumbs, showing the current position within the hierarchy of the site and providing links back to other pages in the same area. For example:

At the foot of each page is information on the date the page was published or last modified, the primary contact details for the NHC, and other useful links, e.g. terms and conditions, access keys, feedback, etc.
The left column, except on the homepage, shows a local menu specific to the section of the site currently being visited. On many pages the right column shows Quick Links to other pages within the same section.
